How to Apply to Our Program

PROSPECTIVE RESIDENTS should contact ERAS — The Electronic Residency Application Service to apply to our program on line.

Applicants for appointments at SUNY Downstate Medical Center must be graduates of medical schools accredited by the Liaison Committee on Medical Education (LCME). Exceptionally qualified graduates of foreign medical schools are eligible for appointment, provided they have been certified by the Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates (ECFMG).

Anesthesia training requires 12 months of clinical base training. First year positions (PGY-1) are available in the Department of Medicine at SUNY DOWNSTATE and The Long Island College Hospital. Students must register with the National Resident Matching Program (NRMP) for both first and second-year positions.

Completion of USMLE, Steps 1, 2, and 3 is strongly recommended. New York State licensure is required for all house staff before they matriculate to the second year of anesthesia training. Similarly, foreign medical graduates are required to obtain a temporary license before they can matriculate to the second year.
